Oh hey friends! Finally getting round to writing up one of my all time favourite cake recipes!

It’s an oreo cake! A cute creamy, doughy yet light cake with a subtle crunch that is just so so delicious and oh so much fun! I tried these oreo cake recipes a while ago here and here! (also amazing!) and after making multiple alternative I eventually came up with my own different recipe that is more to my taste and simple enough for me to manage <3

(Note this recipe makes a large cake! Three tier, 8 inch round cake. Halve all quantities for a smaller likely more normal sized cake)

  • 250g Plain flour
  • 250g Caster Sugar
  • 200g Butter
  • 4 Eggs
  • 120 ml skimmed milk
  • 100 ml double cream
  • 60ml sour cream
  • 240g crushed Oreos (22 normal sized oreo biscuits)
  • Half a teaspoon of baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence


  • 100g dark chocolate
  • 1-2 tablespoons of vegetable or sunflower oil
  • Handful of crushed oreos

Butter cream:

  • 500 g unsalted butter slightly soft
  • 850g icing sugar/powder
  • 4 tablespoons of double cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Baking Method:

  • Pre heat the oven to 180 degrees celsius
  • Beat butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy
  • Add sugar and mix again
  • Add eggs one at a time (if mixture starts to curdle add in a teaspoon of the flour)
  • Pour in the milk, cream and vanilla essence and stir
  • Fold in the sifted flour, salt and baking soda until well combined
  • Gently fold in the crushed oreos
  • DO NOT OVER MIX! Over mixing will make the cake mix grey and results in an excessively sweet cake. So imagine you are Trey Kennedy and only mix enough to make sure they are spread out aka do less, God bless
  • Grease and line three 8 inch cake tins, wrap with a damp cake sleeve to help bake evenly (see video for explanation if unsure)
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until tooth pick comes out clean/firm to touch
  • Turn out onto wire rack and COOK COMPLETELY before decorating

Decorating Method:

Techniques and tools used are explained in the video

  • Melt dark chocolate by placing it in a bowl above a pan of hot water
  • Add the oil to the melted chocolate, stir and leave to cool (not harden, just cool, melted chocolate)
  • Beat butter until white and fluffy. Add icing sugar and cream a little at a time
  • Add vanilla essence
  • Stack the cakes, applying some buttercream, crushed oreos and thin layer of dark chocolate between each cake layer
  • Once the three cakes are stacked, spread a thin layer of buttercream over the cake. This is your crumb coat – to hold all the crumbs!
  • Refrigerate cake for 15 minutes or until cake is firm to touch and buttercream hardened
  • Apply a final layer of buttercream
  • Drip chocolate over top of cake
  • Sprinkle some crumbs of oreo around the base
  • Et voila! Ready to slice, serve and enjoy <3
